You see, when you have been playing poker for a while the complexity of the scene is 'normal'. You know there are many variations, structures and differences in the games. When someone unfamilliar with poker thinks of the game they think of one game (texas holdem or draw, depending on age) and have no idea about what is going on in the poker world.
Interesting thought for me.
Not that I feel superior with my understanding of the differences between Omaha and Badugi, Stud hi-lo and Razz or how to play draws in a no-limit game (for example). That is something I believe that us poker players often get wrong - those outside of the game are baffled by talk of ROI, not impressed, they might acknowledge that poker is a skill game, though will not really understand how... they would certainly not understand why someone would choose to stay in and play rather than do something social (a good example for this with me is when I recently won a seat in a medium SCOOP event and really wanted to play, we were invited out and my lovely wife could really not understand my hesitation (in the end we went out, had a great time and I still have the tournament dollars to use another time!!)).
Suppose the point of this post is to say that poker is great, but it can be good to take a step back and look at it through the eyes of those who are not involved, sometimes.

Hello World Post!
Every blog needs a hello world post.
And I'm no exception.
This post is supposed to be to tell the world who I am, but to be honest i'm just a random poker guy. Not that poker is the thing that defines me, I have a job, a wife and (mostly!) a reasonable social life. It is just that when the TV goes on and the rain starts to fall, I enjoy a game of poker online.
Since I have enjoyed reading poker blogs for a while now I thought it was time to get one started and see how it goes. Not entirely sure what will be in here as yet, of course my games will be here, though to be honest the blogs which only track progress are not the very best of those out there. We can defintely have some news, news which affects random poker guys rather than news which affects only those who play with blinds above $1000 that is.
Strategy is something I'm not too sure I'll be able to help with, well, we can discuss it of course, but I have never come up with anything of my own. ICM and so on is a little beyond me, understand the logic behind it, only can not find the energy to sit with my calculator and work out the correct play.
Anyway, I'll start a blogging journey and see where is goes from there - hope you'll join me, at least now and again!
